Scotland is brimming with wild beauty and fascinating culture, and is a true gem for a motorhome holiday. Here we explore some of the greatest destinations in Scotland to whet your appetite for an adventure.

The Cairngorms

The Cairngorms is Britain’s largest National Park, with a great variety of offerings from wild landscapes to historic culture. For a perfect family day out, the Highland Wildlife Park offers a unique opportunity to witness Scottish wildlife and other animals from around the world. If you are interested in British heritage, you could visit Balmoral Castle, one of the residences of the Royal Family – do check whether the Royal Family are in residence though as sometimes it will be closed to visitors!

Braewick, Shetland

The Eshaness Braewick Caravan Park in Shetland boasts a beautiful campsite and motorhome park overlooking pristine sea. There is a café which is mainly supplied by their own working croft and a craft shop with wares from local people. This park is an ideal starting point for walks around the spectacular local scenery – cliffs made of volcanic rock have formed into dramatic shapes, and also house wild nesting birds. This is a real taste of Shetland placed in stunning scenery and offering a warm local welcome.

The National Tourist Routes

The 12 National Tourist Routes are an ideal way to explore Scotland, with a wide variety of things to see and do as you travel. Perfectly suited to the motorhomer, these routes cover diverse parts of Scotland, from the Borders Historic Route, starting in Carlisle and journeying to Edinburgh; to the North and West Highlands Route, with its rugged scenery, crofts and fishing villages. There is a trip to suit every taste and an excellent introduction to Scotland’s rich landscape.

Port Ban

Travel to the Knapdale Peninsula in the West Coast of Scotland, and the delightful Port Ban Holiday Park will welcome you.  There are stunning views over the sea to Islay and Jura, and fascinating wildflowers and wildlife to be enjoyed. There is something for all the family here: from rockpooling in the local pebble beach to canoeing or fishing in the sea.  There is a large children’s play park and an indoor games hall too for rainy days.

Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park

Bigger than any other lake or loch in the UK, Loch Lomond is a unique and exciting destination on your motorhome holiday. Visit and just take in the scenic beauty or get involved and go kayaking or even open-water swimming! Why not take a ferry from Balmaha and visit the magical island of Inchcailloch – with its rich diversity of plants and animals it is a real treat.

A walk through Puck’s Glen (named after Midsummer’s Night Dream) is a true fairy delight, with giant trees, lush ferns and mosses and dense conifers. The Bird of Prey Trail in the Trossachs gives you an excellent opportunity to view some of Scotland’s unique wildlife, whilst drinking in the fantastic scenery.
