The Den & The Glen (Formally known as Storybook Glen)

This wonderful destination is in two parts – with one purpose – fun. The Den offers an all-weather play den, a climbing wall tower, a 4 lane ‘astro slide’ and a giant Ball Canyon! There is also a healthy restaurant on site. The Glen is a magical world of make-believe presented in 28 acres of beautiful countryside, with plenty for adults and children to enjoy.

Museum of Scottish Lighthouses

This award winning museum hosts a range of galleries – all about lighthouses. Here you can see amazing collections of glass lenses, lighting and every kind of lighthouse artefact imaginable. You can also learn about the lives of the men and women who have been protecting the Scottish coastline for hundreds of years. Included in the visit is a 45 minute guided tour of the Kinnaird Head lighthouse.

Aberdeen Harbour – Clyde Cruises

Forvie Sands Nature Reserve

Forvie Sands is a stunning nature reserve, comprising giant sand dunes, heather-topped moorland, a secret cove and striking cliff tops. It is a treat for bird watchers with over 225 different species of birds, including the largest breeding colony of Sandwich Terns in Scotland.

There is a Visitor Centre on-site which is open from April to October

Although most areas are always open, the areas where the Terns nest is closed from 1st April to the end of August but an alternative route is available by following the markers.  During the nesting season, visitors have full access to the dune system and can walk the length of the estuary and beach

Maiden Stone

The Maiden Stone is one of the many intriguing Pictish monuments in Scotland. It is believed to have been erected in 700 AD, and stands about 3m tall. On its face are a number of mysterious and beautiful carvings – such as a sea monster, centaur and other animals. It also bears the classic knot-work of the era.

Huntly Castle

The ruins of Huntly Castle draw many visitors a year. This imposing castle was once the home of the Earls of Huntly – one of the most prominent Catholic families in Scotland. During its history it was known to have provided shelter to Robert Bruce and Mary of Guise.

Stonehaven Fireball Festival - 31st December – 1st January

The Stonehaven Fireball Festival is one of the most striking New Year fire celebrations around. It is believed that this ceremony has taken place for the last 150 years. The central feature is many brave locals swinging fire-filled cages around their heads – forming a breath-taking spectacle.
