The Royal Armouries holds the nation’s collection of arms, armour and artillery. The Leeds Museum displays over 8500 historic articles, in 5 sections: War, Tournaments, Oriental, Hunting and Self-Defence.

Temple Newsam

This is one of the most famous stately homes in the North. It was the birthplace of Lord Darnley, who later married Mary Queen of Scots. There is a huge collection of silver, paintings, pottery and even textiles and wallpaper, and it has been classed as a museum due to the quality of its exhibitions. Surrounding the House is 1500 acres of parkland and a farm with many resident animals.

The House is closed on Mondays, but the Farm and Tea Rooms open on Mondays during the school summer holidays.

Leeds Art Gallery

This flagship gallery has been described as ‘Probably the best collection of twentieth century British art outside London’ by the Times Newspaper. There is a large collection of Henry Moore sculptures as well as many other leading artists – Rodin, Kramer and Hepworth – as well as emerging artists.

Meanwood Valley Urban Farm

Meanwood is more than just a farm – it’s recognised as a centre for community and environmental work too. They contribute to maintaining rare breeds of farm animal, and are very keen to promote animal welfare. They are host to many species of wildlife, and have an onsite café too!

Roundhay Park

This is possibly the most popular park in Leeds. It covers 700 acres, with woodlands, parkland, lakes – several cafes and 2 playgrounds! There is an attraction called Tropical World onsite, which boasts a rich collection of tropical animals, plants and insects, including a butterfly house.

Kirkstall Abbey

This Abbey is recognised as one of the most complete examples of its kind. It is a medieval Cistercian Abbey, placed in a park on the banks of the River Aire. The surrounding area is rich and green with plenty of wildlife and natural sights to enjoy.

Leeds International Beer Festival - 3rd - 6th September 2015

This very popular festival celebrates the best of UK and internationally brewed craft ales. There will be hundreds of beers and ciders to taste, as well as a street market of food and live music on two stages.

Leeds Triathlon - 13th September 2015 - Starts at 8am

The Leeds Triathlon pushes athletes to their limits, and is set in the picturesque Roundhay Park. The athletes start by swimming in a lake, then they cycle part of the park and nearby roads and finally run round the park in front of the enthusiastic crowds.
